Hoth Pendant Lamp
Hoth Pendant Lamp is a part of the Mobile Series; a new collection of ceramic and brass lighting fixtures by Marre Moerel. Moerel’s aim is to create timeless yet contemporary objects and environments; blending together current and historical references with a certain sense of humor and delicacy. The inspiration behind this new collection comes from Alexander Calder’s Mobile sculptures. Playing with her childhood memories, the designer also pays homage to George Lucas’s Star Wars series by giving the piece a playful, futuristic, twist.
As with most of her designs, Moerel reuses and recycles found objects and ideas. In this case, she recycles her own classic Spore lamp from 2005, originally an adaptation of her son’s football. The aim is to give the objects a new meaning by putting them in a different context, hereby creating a new dialogue whilst maintaining the reference to the object’s origins. To develop the Mobile Series, Moerel played with pre-existing ceramics and brass elements to create carefully balanced compositions. The asymmetrical structures result in ever changing shapes depending on vantage point, thereby creating a constantly evolving relationship with the viewer. The current collection consists of a variety of standardized wall and pendant lights. Special, custom-made designs can be developed upon request.
