Pyrite
A “cubic pyrite crystal” … so singular that it seems to come from space, from the depths of the Earth or from somewhere else never explored or from a parallel and uncontaminated world.
Pyrite by Francesco Maria Messina is a cabinet made up of 5 containers of different sizes and assembled together.
The design piece is the first with which the architect presents his “Mineralia” project, a brand new series of furnishing accessories inspired by certain minerals, including pyrite, rock salt and some surprisingly geometric crystals found in nature.
A tribute to nature … love, passion and the clear and obsessive inspiration of all Francesco’s works.
And a tribute to nature also for its surprising variety of shapes, volumes and proportions.
The goal is a Mimesis, an imitation, a special scale reproduction of a natural shape, adapted to a piece of furniture, to a sculptural object that is functional and decorative at the same time.
Sculpture and design and the illusion that is created thanks to the alternation of functional cubic elements and purely decorative ones that enrich the composition and the whole piece of furniture.
The cabinet openings are designed to be hidden and create a sense of surprise. Arranged on the 3 sides of the cabinet, they open in different ways: the 3 front panels can be tilted and the 2 side panels can be hinged.
The wooden structure is covered with a special metal-based paint that undergoes complex processing to give the typical color of natural pyrite crystal.
Three possible finishes: silver, gold, and bronze.
The entire piece of furniture blossoms and is suspended as if it were a metallic flowering of the precious Cinque Terre “Portoro” marble on which it rests.
However, the marble base can also be eliminated so that the design piece can be suspended on the wall, becoming a contemporary art installation.
