André Silva Sancho

André Filipe Silva Sancho is a Portuguese artist and designer. From an early age, he showed a special interest in drawing and visual arts. However, he only started his art studies at Tomás Cabreira High School in 2008, finishing the course of Visual Arts 3 years later. In 2011, he enrolled in a Design Major at the Institute of Visual Arts, Design and Marketing in Lisbon, where he only attended one academic year. In 2012 he entered the course of Product Design – ceramics and glass – at the School of Arts and Design of Caldas da Rainha. During the last 7 years, he attended several workshops (plaster molds, pottery, raku, free blown glass and glass blowing with molds, fusing, pâte de verre and lapidation) at CENCAL in Caldas da Rainha and Marinha Grande.

In 2018 he produced one of the 3 trophies for the MONSTRA Animation Festival, Lisbon. In 2019, his group won the contest “Caldas Cidade Bordallo” with the project “Sardinhas Bordallo Pinheiro 2019”, permanently applied at the La Vie shopping center in Caldas da Rainha. Silva Sancho is now based in Faro, Portugal, and is available for collaborations and commissioned pieces. His latest project, BLOWPLASTIC, leads him to explore the limit between industry and craft, in which the creator does not fully control all aspects of the creation. Instead, a collaboration between craftsman and material is born, as if the pieces have a will of its own, like a living organism. The result are beautiful, exquisitely organic pieces.
