Echinozoa
Designed by Armand Louis (co founder of atelier oï) and produced by Roberto Beltrami of Wave Murano Glass
Echinozoa is a collection of experimental blown glass pieces, inspired by the enigmatic forms of the abyssal world. Its name recalls the echinoderms starfish, sea urchins, sea cucumbers—marine creatures whose ancient geometries appear at once archaic and alive. The glass is shaped through the radical reinterpretation of a Murano cane, not as a decorative motif or vessel of color, but as a structural, organic element integrated into the blown volume. The ends of the canes, hot-fused onto the surface, create sharp excrescences—spines and filaments that emerge as if grown from the body itself. These protrusions, fragile yet assertive, lend each piece a presence that seems almost living. Suspended between artifact and organism, the series explores the threshold between tradition and transgression, control and release, glass and life—an invitation to look closer, to approach, and to be unsettled.
