Oak Chair in Scrapwood

Piet Hein Eek

The Oak Chair in Scrapwood is one of Piet Hein Eek’s quintessential pieces. It is virtually identical to the original Oak Chair, but is entirely made with scrapwood. “After making a rigid and uncomfortable prototype, we curved the back by laminating it with two pieces of wood. I didn’t think it was possible to make this chair in scrapwood because the back of the backrest was made of planed wood, resulting in little visible texture or color. I realized much later that it was possible if we laminate it. You simply stick the smooth, planed sides against each other, exposing the scrapwood on both sides. I felt like I had spent years walking around in a daze because I was continually held back by a wrong thought. The chair has now become our best-selling chair” said Piet Hein Eek.

Due to the nature of the material used in production, each piece is one-of-a-kind and the images are purely indicative.
