The Secret Life of Steel

Hand-knotted in Nepal and processed in Spain, The Secret Life of Steel is an incredible rug-tapestry in steel wire. It is part of the capsule collection “The Secret Life of Metals” by Nacho Carbonell for NODUS rugs. Nacho decided to explore the creative potential of the rug as a sculpture. Thin metal wires with a diameter of a few micron make up the structure. A protective finish is finally applied, just as real sculptures.

Many attempts have been made before achieving the desired result. In fact, each metal reacts differently to the treatments; each material speaks its own language and has its own life. Metals are mutable, they move in their own way. Nacho Carbonell has been also inspired by the evolution in the use of art textiles, by the fact that rugs are turning into tapestries. In a way, “The Secret Life of Metals” represents a paleontological proof of this evolution.
