Dark Matter Cabinet

This year’s collection is based on dark maHer and thematically intersects with an interest in experimenting with black colour through various materials and surface treatments. The authors M.P.K.J.V.L.J.S jointly concluded, that no colour black is completely black as it always absorbs the color of the light that falls on it. So black, as the ultimate dark color, does not reflect any light. And that’s exactly why dark maHer is called “dark” because it doesn’t give off or interact with light — including normal maHer that we know.

The surface of the cabinet is made of ceramic tiles by designer Milan Pekař and consists of various sizes and heights, so that the overall impression is on one hand chaotic, but on the other hand strictly geometric. The use of the iron oxide effect does not only turn the color of the glaze black, but also transforms the structure and form of the metal crystals in the glaze during a controlled cooling in the kiln. At first glance the seemingly chaotic networks are the unifying element of the entire collection.
