Future Memories side table

Roberto Sironi’s work is rooted in research and anthropological inquiry, transforming centuries-old wooden beams salvaged from Japanese vernacular Kominka houses into sculptural objects that narrate to memory, time, and matter legacy. In Future Memories, he establishes a powerful dialogue between natural and artificial; the time-worn, hand-carved wooden beams are
mirrored by precise, polished-steel surfaces that multiply perspectives and reveal hidden details. Time becomes a tangible material – visible, reflective, and layered – evoking the philosophical and aesthetic principles of ancient Japan. Through this approach, the project foregrounds the philosophical and cultural value of Japanese vernacular architecture, where design emerges from a profound coexistence between humans and nature.

SANSUI is a Japanese carpentry workshop founded in 1930 by Matsujiro Yamakami. The workshop specializes in the dismantling, relocation, and restoration of traditional Japanese residences known as Kominka, as well as in the design and construction of new spaces using beams salvaged from vernacular Japanese architectures, giving the material a new lease of life.
