Dolium I

Dolia originates from a desire to recover the cultural heritage of the territory, looking back to those large Roman vessels used to store food. The dolia were robust forms, with rounded bodies, open mouths and no handles. This archetype is translated into each individual piece, referred to as Dolium (singular of Dolia). Rather than recreating the historical object, the aim is to transfer its formal essence into the realm of textile and fiber. Through the use of new materials and processes, these works acquire a contemplative, innovative and aesthetically significant character. The collection is composed of five unique pieces that, based on a shared formal language, adopt different sizes and proportions, allowing them to adapt to a range of uses and spaces. The rattan core structure builds volume and form and the woven transparent nylon thread provides cohesion and reinforces the structure, while also acting as a filter through which light passes, casting shadows that extend the piece beyond its physical boundaries

All pieces are constructed using traditional basketry techniques, handwoven and without the use of molds, resulting in organic structures with subtle variations in shape and size. The absence of the mold allows each Dolium to retain the imprint of the hands that shape it: the force applied to the stakes, the tension of the thread and the decisions inherent to the manual process generate nuances that are difficult to replicate precisely. While the formal language remains consistent, each piece is, in its own way, unique.
