Door to close

El Espartano

Searching for solace and security, the room is taking on new meaning. Living through devastating and chaotic times makes the sanctuary of an inner space more essential each day. Even a small chamber can provide the peace we are craving. Having a window on the world and a room of one’s own, with a door to close, a ladder to climb, a chair to rest, a cupboard to plunder, a plant to care for and a cat to cuddle, we are creating our own environment, composed of old and new, constructed or organic, with sketching, collage and painting. Designing a clock to take care of time ticking away, contemplating the picture of the little house of our dreams. The various elements are composed by different girlfriends, each designers in their own right, with diverse perspectives on how to render the intimacy of women and home. The monumentalism and humor of Ina Meijer, the playfulness and tenderness of Kiki van Eijk, the ethereal composition of Carole Baijings and the naive tenderness of Mariola López Mariño, with Lili Tedde as our mentor, all complementing the design of my colorful floor — organized as a collective, assembling this wonderful room to explore and contemplate. With a singular creative hand, the rugs come to life by the dedicated expertise of Nuria Kehayoglu and her team at El Espartano. Joining forces in harmony and friendship opens the door for our all-female group to continue to explore creative endeavors. Building a body of work together.
