Elianto

Designed by Patricia Urquiola

For The Door, the project by Galleria Rossana Orlandi for Milan Design Week 2026, Patricia Urquiola presents a micro-architecture: a triangular-plan structure entirely clad in CIMENTO®, featuring a new research material with natural aggregates. The surface is granular and non-uniform, composed of material variations that give it depth and a distinctly organic quality. Within the CIMENTO® mix, dried sunflower residues from post-extraction are incorporated,  a by-product of the food industry. CIMENTO® is a cement-based compound made from natural mineral aggregates and binders; lightweight and with a low environmental impact, it enables finishes and tonalities that traditional concrete cannot achieve. The armored door, developed with Scrigno, remains open and blends into the volume, revealing a denser, more intimate interior: the same material, but in a deeper tone, creating a more immersive atmosphere. At the center, a composition of dried sunflower residues emphasizes the importance of researching abundant natural materials that can re-enter the production cycle. The project is part of Urquiola’s ongoing research with CIMENTO® on the language of material as origin: not as a finish, but as a root.
