Transformed Remnants mirror

Transformed Remnants is a series of sculptural works created from discarded books. By cutting the books into slices and reassembling them, Willem Zwiers transforms their original structure into a new material. Using a mixture of water and wood glue, the layers fuse together into a solid, plate-like surface. The process reveals fragments of text that run through the material, while the combination of aged and newer paper creates subtle variations in color and texture, reminiscent of stone or marble. Each piece is shaped by both control and chance, preserving traces of the books’ former life while forming a new, unified whole.
