“WHO ARE YOU WHEN NO ONE IS WATCHING”

The work “Iris” depicts a woman enveloped in a whirlwind of vivid and bright colors, creating a visual barrier between her and the outside world. Her face, almost unrecognizable due to exaggerated and vibrant makeup, resembles the painting of a pop art piece. Her provocative and seductive expression is given by her plump lips, which she bites, highlighted by an unusual color, electric blue. The turban echoes the geometric motifs typical of Pucci prints, revisited with the use of bright colors that blend with the makeup. Geometric jewelry completes the aesthetic, creating an image of an outgoing and cheerful personality, further emphasizing the modernity of this “Moor’s Head” represented as a contemporary woman. The result of this work is a kaleidoscope of geometric shapes and pop colors that reflects an extroverted, cheerful, and sunny personality. However, behind this facade, we cannot know who Iris truly is; we can only consider that with her mask of colors, she wants to protect herself by deceiving the viewer, hiding her most authentic feelings. This duality thus becomes a visual reflection on the tension between external appearance and internal reality, and on how people often choose to appear, leaving us curious to know: who is Iris when no one is watching?
